Milo und Watson helfen bei der Gartenarbeit

Wer haette das vor 9 Jahren gedacht? Damals wurde die Nacht durchgeschrien, und es musste dauernd sorgfaeltig gefuettert werden. Vorwaertsgespult, heute zahlt sich die Investition aus: sie haben doch tasaechlich ohne gross zu fragen geholfen im Garten die letzten paar Blaetter vom Herbst aufzufegen. Es war auch ein wunderschoener Tag.

Wir waren bei Flora, ein cooles Vegan/Vegetarian Restaurant. Leila mag es aus irgendeinem Grund wenn man so tut, als wuerde man ihr die Nase abkauen. Gemacht, gefilmt:

zum ersten Mal kann Leila jetzt so ein bischen stehen und auch ihren Wagen schieben. Laufen kann sie zwar noch nicht, aber ich nehme an das kommt bald:

Making Turducken 2010

Well again it was time to make Turducken for Thanksgiving. It's now my fifth Turducken and I am getting really good and fast at it. This year, I did something new. I de-boned all the birds, as usual, but I also skinned the duck and the chicken because I felt that previously the skin was a little chewy and greasy in the middle of the dish. So this time no skin. Of course, the turkey kept its skin to still maintain the look and feel of a standard turkey.

We also had a great time with all the sand volleyball playing, lounging in the pool and the kids of course zocking their minds out.

Leila steht!

Zum ersten Mal steht Leila! Sie kann es schon seit ein paar Tagen, aber jetzt habe ich es endlich auf Film festgehalten!

Wir waren heute bei den Jakobis zu Kaffee und Kuchen, sehr nett. Die Kinder haben alle gespielt und Leila war ein bischen fussy. Also hat Melissa sie auf den Schoss genommen und zum ersten mal in ihrem Leben durfte sie Sahne essen, richtig reinhauen mit den Fingern, rumspielen, graben, wuehlen, und natuerlich die Sahne essen.

Watson is such a funny little dude. I farted today so Watson decided it smelled too bad. He taped up his nose so he wouldn't have to smell it:

Rima war auf Besuch!

Freitag kam die Rima fuer drei Tage auf Besuch. Die Kids haben sich noch gut an sie erinnert, obwohl sie sie zuletzt 2008 in Florida gesehen haben.
Wir waren in der ganzen Stadt unterwegs und hatten natuerlich nicht genug Zeit uns alles anzuschaun. Hier ein paar Impressionen:

Pueppi und ich waren dann nochmal auf der Ave, wo die Rima mit mir zu Flowers gegangen sind. Das ist ein sehr cooles Vegan Buffet. Hier die Rima:

Und dann abends nochmal auf Capitol Hill war dieses coole Restaurant wo man die Kueche gleich neben dem Tisch hatte und sehen konnte wie gekocht wird. Also bestimmt die sauberste Kueche in der Gegend!

Sounders Soccer Game!

Went to watch a sounders game with Ryan, Angie, Finn, Gauge, Milo, Watson. It was a great atmosphere, loud, drums, music.
And the sounders beat Marathon 2:0. The setting of the stadium is also sweet, right by downtown, and the weather has been wonderful

Wir waren heute mit den Kids bei Capoeira. Milo macht das uebrigens voll spass. Ich wuenschte ich haette die Kamera schnell genug rausgezogen. Der brasilianische Lehrer hat vorgesungen und Milo war der einzige in der ganzen Gruppe der mitsingen konnte und sich den portugisischen Text der Lieder hatte merken koennen!

Aber waehrend dessen hat Leila mit mir hoppe hoppe reiter und so fahren die damen gemacht. Es ist so suess weil sie mich dabei immer so hoffnungsvoll mit Freude und lachen anschaut:

Sie wollen schon seit langer zeit "Night Owls" machen - das heisst so lange aufbleiben wie es nur geht. Am Wochenende haben sie eine XBox gekriegt (endlich!). Also war es Zeit fuer "Night Owls".
Ih glaube sie haben noch lange nachdem wir schon im Bett waren gezockt. Am naechsten tag:

Papa:"Hey Milo, wie lange habt Ihr gestern abend noch party gemacht?"
Milo:"Sehr lange. Wahrscheinlich bis um zwei oder so."
Papa:"Wow, das ist aber lange! Warst Du nicht muede?"
Milo:"Mein Kopf war hellwach, aber mein Koerper konnte nicht mehr und musste schafen."

Milo and Watson at Cal Anderson

We had a nice fall day yesterday! We went to Cal Anderson park which is built on top of a reservoir. Apparently after 9/11 there was enough fear to loosen the pockets to close up some of our reservoirs in the city. This is the first and finest example in Seattle, we got a nice park in the heart of capitol hill.
Milo and Watson got so wet playing in the water, that's always a sign of tons of fun!

Went out to IKEA today to get some spoons and stuff. milo and watson were being so cute with Leila. Melissa was off looking for god-knows-what-crap-we-don't-need.

Heute morgen. Leila hat ziemlich lang geschlafen. bis ungefaehr halb neun. Dann ploetzlich hoeren wir ein kleinen Schrei aus ihrem Zimmer.
Ich geh hoch und was seh' ich? Sie sitzt nackt in ihrem Bett, Windel hatte sie ausgezogen. Ganz gluecklich und lachend mich zu sehen und flappert mit den Armen. Und leider hatte sie einen riesen Soldatenarm produziert auf dem sie stolz sass.

At Agua Verde

Weils draussen noch so schoen ist, waren wir gestern bei Agua Verde an der Bucht (Portage Bay). Das ist etwa 2-3 km von unserem Haus den Berg runter.
Und Leila hat wie eine grosse gegessen. Man kann sehen dass sie einen guten Apetit hat und sich ganz fein wie ein Gerhard entwickelt, obwohl sie natuerlich ganz doll wie eine Indianerin aussieht. Ausser den blauen Augen vielleicht:

Today was a really rough day for Watson. He was quengeling all day long, complaining, nagging, bugging about being treated unfairly.
Finally we reached the end of the day and we thought he'd started to calm down, he decided to pee into the drawer where we keep the passports! pee into the house, not the bathroom!
Me:"Watson, du kannst nicht ins Haus pinkeln."
Watson:"Das heisst ich kann auch nicht ins Klo pinkelnn."

Ich:"Watson, waerst Du nicht auch gerne noch ein baby das immer rumgeschoben wird, das nur schreien muss wenn's was will und immer gefuetter wird?"
Watson:"Nein. Das will ich nicht. Ich will naemlich gross sein!"
Ich:"Aber warum denn?"
Watson:"Ich will gross und stark werden und Gemuese essen. Ich liebe Tomaten und Brussel Sprouts. Die machen mich gross und stark."

Milo:"Papa, wo ist das Auto?"
me:"Direkt hinter uns."
Milo:"Was heisst das?"
me:"Dass das auto genau in der anderen Richtung ist als wir gehen."
Milo:"Warum sagst du mir das?"
me:"Erinnerst Du dich nicht mehr was du mich gefragt hast?"
Milo:"Nein. Kannst du es mir sagen?"
me:"Versuch darueber nachzudenken."
Milo (lange pause):"hmmmm... irgendetwas mit dem auto... vielleicht... welche Farbe das Auto hat?"
Me:"Nein. denk weiter nach."
Milo:"Ich kann mich ueberhaupt nicht daran erinnern."
Me:"Ah, es ist so toll! ich weiss genau was du gefragt hast und was die antwort ist. Es ist so toll!"
Milo:"Was?"
me:"erinnerst du dich worueber wir gesprochen haben?"
Milo"Nein. ueberhaupt nicht."
Me:"Denk nach."
Milo (lange Pause):"Ach ja, wo ist das Auto!"
Me:"Ja! Willst du die antwort wissen?"
Milo:"Warum?"

!!! Er hat sich waehrend der ganzen unterhaltung an nichts erinnert was wir besprochen haben. gleich nach jeder frage hat er vergessen, was er gefragt hat. Sehr Gerhard maessig.

Camping at Soap Lake. In the morning. Watson had refused to eat breakfast. His friend Nico appeared to have gotten something from the store. It looked like candy.
Watson:"Papa, kann ich auch einen dollar haben um mir candy zu holen?"
Me:"Aber Watson, ich habe dir gerade eben Fruestueck gemacht, du wolltest nichts essen, und jetzt willst du Suessigkeiten. auf keinen Fall."
Watson:"H. E. L. L. da wirst du bald sein. H. E. L. L."

Then later i was putting stuff in the car, suddenly I get a hard punch in the back. It really hurt. Watson was looking at me very angrily.

Watson:"Du bist der gemeinste Papa auf der Welt."

After all that I took him to the side and told him that behavior was unacceptable.

So he decided to lie down in the middle of the road until he got hit by a car and died.

We were camping at Soap Lake, and Watson was having an episode. He was upset about Milo telling his friend Nico something that he didn't want Nico to know.
He was all upset. He ran off. A few minutes later I asked Milo:
Papa:"Milo, wo ist der Watson?"
Milo:"Er ist runter zum See gelaufen. Er will sich im Wasser ertraenken."
Papa:"Aber er steht jetzt nur da im Matsch!"
Milo:"Ja, er will sich jetzt nicht mehr ertraenken. Er will nur im Matsch stehen bis er stirbt."

Milo:"Juhuu! Wir haben heute early dismissal. Das heisst wir kommen um 2 nach hause."
Me:"Weisst Du dass sie in Deutschland immer um 1 aus haben? Und den ganzen nachmittag spielen koennen?"
Milo"Wow! Das ist so toll in Deutschland."
Watson:"Papa, in den alten days, in Deutschland, mussten die Leute nur in die Schule gehen und da spielen, dann singen, dann spielen, dann nach Hause!"

The kids played an April fool's prank on me today.

I get home from work and they had made an awesome Vegan Brownie with blueberry for me! It was a little odd because they were giggling a little and holding postcards in front of his mouth.
I asked what was up and Milo said Leila had done this funny thing that cause him to chuckle.

I get out a fork and try to eat the brownie, but it turned out it was sponge drenched in blueberry jam with chocolate chips on it! hahaha, very funny it looked totally real. they laughed hard and were very excited.


The funny part later Melissa told me leading up to the prank was that they were trying to find ways to contain their laughter.
Milo:"I am just going to hold this tissue in front of my face so Dad can't see me laughing."
Milo:"I'll just tell him I had a serious lip injury."
Milo:"Forget about the lip injury. Just tell him I am drunk."

Watson's been having issues making it to the bathroom on time. Melissa takes him to the doctor.

Doctor:"Okay, so we're going to have to give you this powder that will help you poop better."
Watson (excited):"Oh no, does that mean I have to take Psyllium Husk now?"

They were playing on the computer. Suddenly the network goes down and Watson is pissed that he can't watch cartoonnetwork on the computer.
He's figured out that he can just type "c" and the browser will usually autocomplete to cartoonnetwork.com.

So I restart the modem. Watson keeps complaining that it's not working. So I go check, and on the screen he had typed into the search bar (instead of the address bar):

"cartonnetwrc" - his best guess spelling of cartoonnetwork!

On our way back from the boyscouts. Both kids were with me.

Me, singing: "Meine kleinen babies, sind so winzig klein."
Milo and Watson in concert:"Halt die klappe!"

I kept singing. they were getting mad:

Milo:"Too bad I can't think of anything stronger to say than 'shut up'"
Watson:"I can. 'Fuck to the side!'"

St Paddy's Day 2010

Today was St. Paddy's day and there was of course the St Patrick's Day Dash at the Seattle Center. The race for the kids started at 8:00 am, and since daylight savings just started it was 7:00am for real. So I got the kids and Melissa up at 7:15 (which was really 6:15) to go for a run! Oh were they joyous, especially after a particularly hard partying night for Milo and Watson with a special presentation of Watson until late at night coming down to our room again and again pleading to sleep with us.

But they did great! They ran ganz tapfer the entire 1K of the Leprechaun Dash. They did really well! I did the 4 mile dash in about 28 minutes which was OK.

Me:"Retirement? Das ist wenn ich nur noch in der Haengematte liege und ein Glas Wein trinke und die Mama mir den Ruecken kratzt bis ich einschlafe."
Watson:"Dann bist Du tot und im Heaven."

Hiking and stuff

We went to Wallace Falls state park today to check out the great falls you can hike to there. It's a quick 3 mile hike to the medium falls, but alas we didn't make it because Watson was having a Wutanfall.
Fun nonetheless, and some great pics.

Leila Progress...

So what she does these days is totally check out hands. She is really into hands. From birth she's loved having her hands held. When she cries, usually she'll calm down when you hold her hands. She's already curiously investigating her hands as she watches them move, though she probably doesn't realize yet that they're her hands and that she makes them move.

Melissa was playing peekaboo with her and all she did was stare at her hands in amazement.

Ihr wisst ja wie es ist. Kinder sagen einem alles nach. Das habe ich mal wieder am eigenen Leib erfahren. Wir sind auf dem Weg zur Sylvester Party, und biegen gerade auf die Autobahn ab.

Ich:"Mei, was ist mit dem Typen vor uns los. Der faehrt so lahmarschig."
Milo:"Vielleicht ist er besoffen. Oder er hat die Hosen voll und will nach Hause."
