Leila im temp house

Hier noch ein suesses video von September:

Leila is such a tomboy

She wants for her birthday:

  • A cupcake with a sparkly 4
  • Legos
  • Magic Cards
basically all the boy interests.

Leila loves to speak about what she wants to happen in the third person from the perspective of the person who is supposed to do it.

Leila:"My daddy wants to get me a glass of milk. Yes I do!"

this probably is supposed to mean something like:"I want my dad to ask me if I want a glass of milk", and me to say: "Leila, willst du ein glas Milch", to which she would respond "Yes I do".

Christmas 2012

Well this year we were up in Seattle and it was good to see everyone! Of course we hung out with the Germans and I also got a chance to hang out with Rob, who had his whole family in town. Thanks for inviting me over, good to see you and everyone.
And of course the scooter guys at the 9lb hammer and thanks Ryan and fam for coming down to visit and go to gameworks!

Here some pics from the Port Wooden house this year:

Our room in the awesome 1913 officer's home.

Ferry ride out of seattle

Taking a walk in the freezing weather and blowing wind + rain.

Leila still loved it of course.

Yep, I had to carry her after this.

Ruedie and I went for a run, the sun made a brief appearance and i got this shot of
whole place.

The kids are turning into teenagers!

But not Leila, she is just excited to see me.

Roadtrip to Seattle for Christmas

Took a roadtrip to Seattle for the Port Wooden house this year. It took 2 days each way so it's a bit long, but I kind of enjoy the slow drive up there and taking in the changing scenery.

Everything went pretty well, we spent the first night in redding, ca.

We took the pass over Sikiyou where it started snowing like crazy. Got chains in Yreka, CA, had to put them on and we were checked on crossing the border to Oregon.

Then we couldn't make it out of the valley in any direction: Grants Pass: closed. Back to Yreka - closed. Via Bend and Crater Lake: snowed in. Access to the coast: snowed in.

So we stayed in this cute town called Shady Grove, in a hotel right by the river and played in the snow:

The trip then led us to through the Oregon plains to Portland and finally Seattle. On the way, we came across Brownsville to get a coffee. This town is the filming location of the movie Stand By Me, which we later found out. We got a coffee, took some pics and went on our way:

This is the road the kids walk on back to the town and where they leave the town
in the movie Stand by Me.

On the way back, there was still a bunch of snow. We stopped over in Ashland, which is just an awesome town, Eugene for the night, and finally a small stop in Shasta Mountain, which was  a dream winter wonder land.

Melissa:"Why do you like your papi?"
Leila, after thinking:"Because he loves me!"

Leila:"Ich will tragen Du" - was heisst, "ich will das du mich traegst".

Riesen fortschritte!

We were doing Adventsstuff, 2nd Advent today.

Melissa reading the Christmas book:"Baby Jesus was born and the people wondered where he came from and if he was the son of god."
Milo:"But they knew who the parents were. They were right there."
Melissa:"But apparently an angel came down to Mary and told her she was going to get pregnant and have a baby without having sex."
Milo:"They must have been running some kind of scam or something"

Leila: "Wollen wir springen" (hochschmeissen)
Me: "OK", I throw her up.
Leila:"Nochmal?"
Me:"Nein, das ist jetzt genug."
Leila"Noch einmal."
Me:"OK", I throw her up.
Leila:"Nochmal?"
Me:"Ok" I throw her up.
Leila:"Nochmal?"
Me:"Nein."
Leila:"Noch ein letztes Mal?"
me:"Nein."
Leila:"Noch ein allerletztes Mal?"
Me:"also gut, and I throw her."
Leila:"Nochmal?"
Me:"Nein."
Leila:"Noch einmal?"
Me:"Nein, ich bin ehrlich zu muede."
Leila:"Noch ein letztes Mal?"
Me:"Nee, ehrlich."
Me:"Ok", so I hold her.
Leila:"Und jetzt, hoch!"
So I throw her again. this goes on forever every day.

Met Leila and Melissa for lunch. Leila is superexcited to se me pull up on the bike.

Leila:"I like that guy!"

Leila said...

She has these moments where she appears to be "afraid" of me. Like I'll talk and she'll look away. Or I call her name and she runs away squealing.

Me:"Hallo Leila, wo ist meine herzallerliebstes baby?"
Leila, looking away from me at Melissa:
Leila: "Who said that?"

Ulm

Camping on Eliza Island

Eliza Island is a tiny island in the San Juans, just a few miles west and south of Bellingham. It is blad shaped (sort of), and our friends from scouts own a parcel of land there. We were all invited out for the weekend and loved every second of it. The weather was fantastic, so were the sunsets.

We spent time crabbing (dungeness crabs!). I killed my first animal for survival purposes. I am now an expert in crab annihilation. I can kill, clean, remove the legs in under 10 seconds. Not much suffering there!

Here is a short vid compilation of pics:

She loves to watch me when I repair things like the motorcycle, vespas, bikes, lawn mower.

Leila:"Papa, was machst Du?"
me:"Ich repariere das Fahrrad."
Leila:"Papa muss das Fahrrad klopparieren."

I can't tell if it sounds like "klopparieren" (bang-on-it repair) or "crap-arieren" ('crap-pair' instead of 'repair'). Both sound very funny though.

Leila hat echt interessante Grammatik entwickelt. Sie uebersetzt "need" anscheinend mit "muss".

Leila:"Papa, ich muss Wasser." - Papa ich muss wasser trinken. (oder auf english: I need water).
Dann spaeter:
Leila:"Papa, ich habe gewasser." - ich habe Wasser getrunken!

Macht doch voll Sinn, oder?

Melissa:"You are so sweet and I love you Leila. Do you love your mommy?"
Leila:"I choose my best Papi!"

Leila:"Papa, wollen rumlaufen?"
Leila:"Papa, wollen wir ein Eis essen?"

Leila said...

Sie hat ein neues Wort gefunden. "Muss". Alles ist "muss"

Leila:"Papa, ich muss trinken."
Leila:"Papa, ich muss tragen." (zu Deutsch: du musst mich tragen)
Leila:"Papa, ich muss Milch trinken."
Leila:"Papa, ich muss essen."

Leila...

Sie hat Riesenangst vor Trocknern in Badezimmern. Sie sagt dauernd:

Leila:"Der Trockner war sehr laut. Auf dem Zeltplatz." (in Alta lake wo wir ueber Memorial Day waren).
Leila:"Der Trockner ist hat gescary."

Leila said...

Leila:"Papa, patissa helfen?"
Leila:"Patissa Milch holen?"

"Bitte Sehr" - "Bitte sehr helfen?" - "Bitte sehr Milch holen?"

Sie ist so hoeflich.

Milo said...

Milo is now getting older and more reasonable. We haven't heard any real crazy proposals in a while.

Me:"Milo, wuerdest Du jetzt immernoch eine Rollercoaster in unserem Garten bauen?"
Milo:"mmmm...."
Me:"Glaubst Du das waere ein reasonable Sommerprojekt?"
Milo:"Mmmm, no actually not with the chickens in the backyard."

Cub scout camp Millersylvania
