Leila und die zweite Person Singular

Leila:"hast du gehabst tiramisu zu deiner zum geburtstagsparty?"

Sie sagt "Zum Geburtstagsparty" weil man ja "Happy Birthday" auf Englisch singt, und auf Deutsch "Zum Geburtstag viel Glück." Klar, oder?

Leila und die Schaukel!

Sie liebt ihre Schaukel!

Und sie traut sich ganz viel. So schnell zu gehen. Sie ist halt ein echter Draufgaenger.

Leila says...

Leila still translates a lot of things literally from English.

Birthdays are a big thing right now. She loves to pretend to have birthday parties, she can't wait for hers in the fall, and she was really excited when it was mine. She loves to sing happy birthday.

So she started saying in German"Papa, wann ist meine zum Geburtstagsparty?"

Of course! she was translating from the song "Happy Birthday to you".
In German it's "Zum Geburtsag viel Glueck".

So she thinks "Birthday" is "Zum Geburtstag" in German.

Leila says...

Leila hasn't quite figured out how to conjugate verbs in German. She always uses the second person singular, probable because that's. how I talk to her.

I will say "Magst du ein Eis essen?", or interestingly, sounds similar, when I don't like her biting my nose I say "Ich mags nicht!", which sounds similar. And I say that *a lot*.

So she will say: "Ich magst das nicht". Or "Ich siehst das nicht".

Watson said...

We were having dinner out on the deck. Delicious Vegan burgers and delicious corn on the cob.

Leila was taking her time eating a whole ear on my lap. Watson was eager to start watching spiderman.

Watson:"Ich gucke Spiderman mit keine Dir."
